September 26, 2010

Hello!!

With Texas Teen drawing closer and the school year getting under way I am becoming extremely busy! I think it is safe to say to expect my blog every two weeks now, at least until after MISS TEXAS TEEN USA!!

As I mentioned in my last blog, I speak to 4th and 5th grade girls about "The Importance of Being a G.I.R.L". This is a concept I developed to spread to elementary schools to show girls the way to develop self confidence or, be a Glamorous Individual Respecting Life (GIRL). On Thursday the 16th I went to Academy Elementary School and spoke to their 4th grade young ladies and was so impressed. These little women were not only extremely beautiful on the outside but beautiful on the inside as well. I spoke to them about letting that inner beauty shine through no matter what their family life is or what their peers tell them. Also we talked about achieving their dreams and not letting anything stand in their way. The girls gave me an adorable stuffed bumble bee (the Academy mascot) as a thank you present. I am excited to let you all know that I will be going to Leon Heights Elementary on October the 8th to speak to their GIRLs. The cool thing about this is that both my mom and dad went to Leon Heights!!

This past Saturday, the 25th, I got to hand out medals to Veterans at the Freedom Ball 2010! This Ball is an annual event for any active or retired military to come and enjoy a good dinner, great band, silent auction, and big thank you for what they do! It was so great to get to put on a gown and participate in this with my big sister, Felicia, and Miss Waco Teen, Arden, and Miss Waco, Christina, as well as the new Miss US Intercontinental, Mandy! Even though seeing these girls was great, the best part of it all was to be able to thank some of the men and women that fought for my freedom and risked their lives so I could have mine safely.

On Saturday I will be participating in the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure with team MISS TEXAS USA! It will be in Houston in the morning and I will be participating with many teen contestants as well as teen titleholders. The fabulous Nicole O'Brian and her mother Denise are the team leaders. My goal is to raise $100 for this cause by Saturday morning, and know I can do it. Visit the tab on my profile if you wish to donate. Can't wait to get in a good walk as well as raise money for this great cause!!

As far as school goes, I am on my sixth week and it keeps getting tougher and more fun. I am loving all of it except that Chemistry is a little bit of a struggle for me but I am not giving up and keep working towards that "A" that I know I can have. As for as the fun part goes, I am loving football season and getting to sit very close to the field with the Magic Belles. I am also running for the Secretary/Historian position in Student2Student, an organization that I'm involved in at school that welcomes new students to Belton HS.

By the way, there is only 9 weeks left until Texas Teen USA! Every week I have a quote that motivates me for the week and this week it is: ‎"Cut not the wings of your dreams, for they are the heartbeat and the freedom of your soul." by Flavia!

Bunches of Love,
Kendra
